Greyhound racing in Portugal takes place from February to November, with a break in July and August due to the high temperatures.¹ There appear to be at least six racing venues throughout the country. Coursing events also take place at some of the tracks.

Both Irish imported and Portuguese bred greyhounds race on the straight tracks.² There are 23 greyhound breeding kennels in Portugal listed on greyhound-data.com, an online database maintained by dog racing gamblers.³

There are several instances of greyhound racing injuries documented on the blogs of Portuguese greyhound kennels. For example, one greyhound broke a bone in his foot during the National Championships in September 2013.⁴

There is no wagering on greyhound races in Portugal.
